How Much Does a Doula Cost?

Investing in Your Birth Experience

When preparing for the birth of your baby, you might be wondering: Is hiring a doula worth the cost? The answer is a resounding yes! Birth is a life-changing event, and the support you receive during labor can shape your experience in profound ways. At Trinity Doula Services, we believe that having a doula is an investment in your birth, your confidence, and your well-being.

The Value of a Doula: More Than Just a Cost

A doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support, helping families navigate labor with confidence and comfort. Research has shown that doula support can lead to:

✔️ Shorter labors

✔️ Less need for pain medication and medical interventions

✔️ Lower cesarean rates

✔️ Increased satisfaction with the birth experience

✔️ Better postpartum recovery

When you invest in a doula, you’re investing in expert guidance, advocacy, and hands-on support during one of the most important moments of your life.

How Much Does a Birth Doula Cost?

The cost of hiring a doula varies based on location, experience, and services provided. At Trinity Doula Services, our Birth Doula Package starts at $1,500 in St. Louis and $1,000 in Southeastern Illinois.

What’s Included?

🤰 Two Prenatal Visits – We’ll discuss your birth preferences, comfort techniques, and answer any questions.

👶 Continuous Labor & Birth Support – Whether at home or in the hospital, we provide hands-on comfort measures, advocacy, and encouragement throughout your entire labor and birth.

💜 One Postpartum Visit – We’ll check in on your recovery, assist with newborn care, and offer postpartum support.

Two Doulas for Every Birth

At Trinity Doula Services, every birth client—whether in St. Louis or Southeastern Illinois—gets a dedicated team of TWO doulas. This means:

👩‍👩‍👦 Enhanced availability – You’ll always have support, even if one doula is attending another birth.

Continuous care – If labor is long, one doula can rest while the other supports you, ensuring fresh, attentive care at all times.

🌟 Diverse skills & experience – Two doulas bring different strengths to provide the best possible care.

💖 A built-in backup plan – No worrying about whether your doula will be available—we always have you covered.

Does Insurance Cover a Doula?

More and more insurance providers and employer benefits programs are recognizing the value of doula support and offering reimbursement or direct coverage for services. Trinity Doula Services is an approved doula provider with Carrot Benefits, a workplace fertility and family-building benefits provider.

Insurances Known to Provide Some Doula Coverage or Reimbursement:

💡 Medicaid (varies by state) – Some Medicaid plans provide doula coverage. In Missouri and Illinois, coverage options are expanding.

💡 United Healthcare – Some plans include reimbursement for doula services.

💡 Cigna – Offers health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) reimbursement.

💡 Aetna – Certain plans may reimburse doula services.

💡 Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) – Some plans offer partial coverage.

💡 Carrot Fertility – TDS is an approved doula provider, meaning Carrot-covered families can use their benefits for our services.

💡 Health Savings Accounts (HSA) & Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) – Many clients use these accounts to pay for doula support.

📢 Not sure if your insurance covers doulas? We recommend calling your provider and asking if they offer reimbursement for birth doulas under "out-of-network providers" or "maternal support services."

How to Afford a Doula

If insurance doesn’t cover doula services directly, there are other ways to make it more affordable:

💰 Payment Plans – We offer flexible payment plans to fit your budget.

🎁 Doula Gift Registry – Add doula support to your baby registry and have family & friends contribute, gift certificates available in our online shop.

🏦 HSA/FSA Accounts – Check if your health savings or flexible spending account covers doula care.

💸 Community & Employer Benefits – Some workplaces and community programs offer reimbursement or assistance for doula services.

🤝 Sliding Scale & Scholarships – In certain cases, reduced-cost options may be available.

Invest in Your Birth – You Deserve It

The memories of your birth experience will stay with you forever. Choosing a doula isn’t just about comfort—it’s about feeling empowered, informed, and supported every step of the way.
