The thought of a life full of screaming babies and poopy diapers might not sound like the most appealing thing in the world (especially to a lot of modern millennials) but the doulas at Trinity Doula services have signed up for it in spades. From prenatal to postnatal, the team collectively has a few decades of experience. Wowza!
This week, we're checking in with Mallory Lischer of Okawville, IL. Who is she? What makes her tick? Could she be the postpartum doula of your dreams? Let's find out. :)
How long have you been a doula?
"Birth doula off and on for 7-8 years, postpartum doula 2 years."
What inspired you to become a doula?
"My twin had her first baby and it didn't go as she hoped, after that I started deep diving into all things birth pregnancy and postpartum."
What's your favorite part of supporting families during birth or postpartum?
"Helping people navigate new parenthood, there's a lot to learn and navigate and I'm happy to be a part of that."
Describe your doula philosophy in one sentence.
"I believe in showing up with calm, practical support and deep respect for each family's unique journey through birth and postpartum."
What's one thing you wish every birthing person knew?
"Choosing the right birthplace and birth team that aligns with your goals is important."
Share a powerful or memorable moment you've experienced while working as a doula.
"Seeing a mom hold her twins after a challenging pregnancy and birth."
What do you think makes your support unique?
"My postpartum support is rooted in calm, compassionate presence and a deep respect for the intensity and beauty of this season. I don't come with an agenda - I come to truly listen, to notice what's needed, and to offer grounded, nurturing care that helps families feel safe and supported. Whether it's caring for the baby while parents rest, offering gentle guidance, or simply sitting quietly with someone who needs to talk, I show up with tenderness, trustworthiness, and a deep belief that rest, connection, and being seen can make all the difference in those early weeks. I bring both practical help and emotional steadiness to a time that can feel overwhelming and sacred all at once."
What's one myth about doulas specifically that you'd love to bust?
"That doulas are only for people following a specific parenting style or doing everything 'naturally'. In reality, postpartum doulas support all kinds of families regardless of how they feed their baby, where they give birth, or what their home life looks like. My role is not to judge or direct, but to offer steady, compassionate care and practical support so parents can rest, heal, and grow confident in their own way. Every family deserves that kind of support.
In one word, what does being a doula mean to you?
"Supportive."
