It's that time of the month again...No not that time of the month. But the time of the month we check in with a doula and find out why they have chosen to do what they do. What called them to this line of work? Let's find out.

ree

How long have you been a doula?

C: "A few months!"

What inspired you to become a doula?

C: "When I became pregnant with my first child 7 years ago, I dove headfirst into the natural, unmedicated birth community and found myself enthralled! It wasn't until my sister's birth for her recent babe, who will be 1 in a couple months, that I really realized my love for supporting women during all the stages of birth is what my calling was! I am honored to help women of all types feel supported and cared for during the most important and magical moments in life!"

What's your favorite part of supporting families during birth or postpartum?

C: "The sense of support they feel just knowing they have someone in their corner!"

Describe your doula philosophy in one sentence (or two).

C: "I am committed to giving unwavering emotional care and support while respecting your beliefs and birth plan! I am passionate about addressing all aspects of your journey with a holistic approach to create a nurturing and harmonious environment ❤️"

What's one thing you wish every birthing person knew?

C: Theyhave more choices than they realize! Medicated or not - there is so much you can still do to get the best possible birth!"

Share a powerful or memorable moment you've experienced while working as a doula.

C: "Since I am a newer doula, my experiences as limited, so I will speak on my own birth with my son- my first, we did an un-medicated birth at a birthing center is Los Angeles California and it was a gruesome 24hour laboring process that I vividly remember wanting to give up on right as I was transitioning.. I remember my midwife and doula both grabbing my attention and sternly telling me that I was in fact doing this and there was no way other than through - to not fear the contractions but to welcome them.. and my son was born within the hour. Without the strength of my team behind me- reminding me of my purpose and my own strength I fear I wouldn’t have been able to have the birth I desired! I am forever grateful for my team that day, and I so very much strive to be that memory for all my clients."

What do you think makes your support unique?

C: "I am strong in my loving kindness and am able to give a lot to others. It brings me immense joy!"

What's one go-to comfort item or technique you always bring with you?

C: "Essential oils I find are helpful in every situation!"

What's one myth about doulas specifically that you'd love to bust?

C: "[That] your partner can be your doula!!"

In one word, what does being a doula mean to you?

C: "Fulfillment"
