Why the holidays can be the hardest times? - The Little Resource Center
Christmas is just a week away. For many in our community, this season is filled with gatherings, shared meals, and traditions that revolve around food. But for others, the holidays highlight just how fragile things can feel, especially when access to food is uncertain.
Food insecurity doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it’s stretching groceries longer than they should last. Sometimes it’s skipping meals so there’s enough for everyone else. Sometimes it’s standing in the store doing the math and knowing something has to go back.
This affects people across our community. Seniors, single adults, families, and yes, expectant and new parents as well. Pregnancy and postpartum come with increased nutritional needs, and those needs don’t pause for the holidays. Bodies are still healing. Babies are still being fed. Stress and scarcity make everything harder.
With Christmas so close, the need becomes more urgent.
Donations made right now help us provide food support to members of our community who need it most during this season. They allow us to feed families and distribute nourishing meals, while also including care items that often get overlooked. Things like basic hygiene supplies, postpartum recovery items, and baby essentials such as diapers, wipes, and feeding supplies.

The days leading up to Christmas can stretch people thin. Bills are due, work hours can change, and many support systems are unavailable. A timely donation this week can mean a stocked fridge, a warm meal, or one less impossible choice for someone in our community.
Giving during the holidays is about showing up for one another when the need is greatest. It’s about recognizing that behind many doors are people quietly doing their best with very little.
If you’re able to help, there are a few ways to do so right now.
In-person donations can be dropped off at 2182 Tenbrook Rd.
Monetary donations can also be sent via Cash App at $littleresourcecenter or Venmo at @tlrcinc, which allows us to quickly respond to the most immediate needs in our community.
For those who want guidance on what items are most helpful, we’ve put together a simple donation guide that outlines what we're trying to put in our holiday boxes this year. You can find that link below.
